The Rise of the Dontell's and the Fight Against the Woke Poke

Meet the Dontell's - a figurative group of Americans who are refusing to be told what to do to and resisting woke agendas, which is seen in businesses everywhere.

Nationwide: A recent Wall Street Journal op/ed piece introduced readers to the rise of the Dontell family and how their ambitions to resist many growing trends are spreading.

But the Dontell family isn't a literal family. It is a name given to a collective group of people who are no longer willing to be told what to do by government, corporations, big tech and anyone else who feels they are in position to "know what's best for the people".

In fact, there is an official medical term for this resistance. According to John Hopkins Medicine, this "don't tell me what to do" dynamic is known as ODD - oppositional defiant disorder. It is often seen in children who are uncooperative and defiant, particularly towards authoritative figures.

And there's a growing trend of people with ODD, to which they are proud to be labeled as such.

Welcome to the Dontell family

This growing group is starting to take a stand and fight back. They're the Dontell's; as in "don't tell me what to do" (hence the name Dontell), "don't tell me to use paper straws", "don't tell me I have to be OK with a trans woman beating up on a biological female in a UFC match."

Dontells will, however, continue to call their main bedroom the "master bedroom." They will continue to call out drag queen shows aimed at the underage population.

Much of this resistance group comes in contrast to urbanites. These urbanites, some say, are accustomed to being told what to do, and want to continue that strategy by telling others what to do.

In any urban environment, you're continually told to walk or don't walk, mind the gap, where to park on what day, wait in line, you can't drink that much soda (New York), you can't have the McDonald's Happy Meal toy in San Francisco unless you meet their nutritional guidelines (true story).

The op/ed piece author, Andy Kessler, believes this woke poke approach comes from Obama-era bossiness that grew accustomed to telling people what to do. Since that time, he feels it has worsened. But it also gave birth to the Dontell group.

Most Americans would agree that the nation is divided and continues to divide. While doing so, subsets of groups, like the Dontell's, are emerging.

And we at Align Us App are among that group who emerged.

But not to take sides or push personal agendas. But to help people decide where along the spectrum they want to stay. We help people find organizations and businesses who align with them.

As humans, we are social creatures who want to be among people like us. We are simply an extension of that and helping people find organizations run by people just like them.

That's the power of the Align Us App.
