Chick-fil-A On The Hot Seat Over Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Topic, But Is It Warranted?

Chick-fil-A is well known as a strongly conservative company. Still, Twitter users are criticizing the fast-food chain for their public stance on including DEI in their business model. But is it an overreaction?

Most people know Chick-fil-A for their delicious chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. They are also widely known as an unapologetic conservative company built on a Christian foundation.

But recent online traffic has called them out as "woke" for their documented stance on committing themselves to DEI practices.

Thousands of Twitter users took to the social media platform. They voiced their displeasure over Chick-fil-A's public commitment to DEI, which is not new and available on their webpage.

The webpage focuses on the message of being "better together."

"One of our core values at Chick-fil-A, Inc. is that we are better together. When we combine our unique backgrounds and experiences with a culture of belonging, we can discover new ways to strengthen the quality of care we deliver: to customers, the communities we serve, and the world. We understand that getting Better at Together means we learn better, care better, grow better, and serve better," their webpage says.

It then closes with a bold message, "Chick-fil-A, Inc.'s commitment to being Better at Together means embedding Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in everything we do."

DEI and Liberalism

Some people from both sides of the aisle call the proposed boycott an overreaction. However, many conservative personalities feel that is partly due to the entire DEI topic being "high-jacked" by the left.

One such conservative personality is Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis recently held a roundtable with other Florida leaders to discuss DEI and its role in the education system.

"DEI divides students and at its very core is the antithesis to its so-called mission," said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr, who was part of the roundtable. "These initiatives have completely transformed over the years, from what were once simple efforts to ensure equal access to all students, to now focusing on ideology over merit."

Diversity is a conservative concept at its core because it values the uniqueness and individuality of each person, rather than trying to mold everyone into a homogeneous group. It recognizes that different perspectives and experiences foster innovation and resilience. By embracing diversity, conservatives uphold the principles of personal freedom, limited government intervention, and a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every individual.

Equity and equal opportunity are also conservative values. They are necessary for healthy competition, a function of capitalism and what America is built on.

And to be competitive, an organization must be inclusive of all people and give everyone an equal chance. Those who perform the best, are most productive, and have the most potential are subsequently given additional growth opportunities, which parallels conservative ideology.

Conversely, recent liberal ideology promotes not treating - but instead keeping - everyone equal. This is reminiscent of Marxism and Socialism and is as un-American as it gets.

From a conservative perspective, diversity, equity, and inclusion policies have been manipulated by liberal agendas. While initially well-intentioned, these policies have been used to advance a political ideology that prioritizes identity politics over individual merit and personal responsibility. Critics argue that such policies often result in reverse discrimination, stifling free speech, and promoting a victimhood mentality, ultimately undermining the principles of fairness and equal opportunity that conservatives value.

It also wouldn’t be a stretch to say that leftists would love to turn conservative against a company that has rankled them in the past.

Other conservative personalities also feel a complete boycott of Chick-fil-A is unnecessary and that the famous restaurant is merely trying to institute DEI as it was traditionally designed.

And Chick-fil-A is rooted in traditions, especially involving faith.

According to their website, their mission is, "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A."

"Can they do these two things? Can they stick by the values you [Fox analyst] just said, but also become more inclusive for their shareholders, or for their state laws or whatever? Bud Light couldn't figure out what part to do first, so they stuck their toes in the deep end of the water and started drowning," Fox News analyst Harris Faulkner said on their morning show

We intend to offer alternatives for companies who "go woke." However, we are not fully convinced Chick-fil-A is "woke," just trapped in the middle between politics and tradition.

We will wait to see how this shapes out, as it is a developing story.
