Miami, FL: A local journalist from the Miami, Florida area, James Taranto couldn't help but hear about a nearby K-12 private school that has made national headlines. It was for more than it's unique and highly sought after educational program, but also its belief in avoiding everything 'woke' related. After the journalist set up a tour of the facility to see everything first hand and to pick their brains about their philosophy, it was determined that the school has very conservative beliefs, even more than most Florida conservative residents.

Husband and wife duo, David and Leila Centner started the Center Academy in 2019 after David retired from the tech industry. Their initial goal for the academy was to provide "outside-the-box" educational opportunities to help foster real learning and maximize student engagement. In one example, students were asked to pass around a candle and, once received, come up with a wish they have for themselves. Although students were not required to say their wish out loud, it was strongly encouraged.

In response to a student's question about whether she should say her wish out loud or not, the teacher Ms. Jimenez replied, "When we express what we want, we move the energy from the bottom, from the first chakra all the way to the throat. So we manifest things when we speak about them."

Another unique educational strategy for the Centner Academy is to provide students a room that is "dedicated to failure." The concept is for students to undertake complicated projects that have a high rate of failure. The end goal is to remove the stigma of failure so that they are not later afraid to try new things for fear of failure.

Their Anti-Woke Mission

It wasn't until the Covid pandemic that founders David and Leila Centner began making changes to their philosophy and modified the academic culture.

"What happened through Covid opened our eyes," Mrs. Centner told Taranto. She continued, "Oh my God, there is so much on that has been going on for the last 20 years that we need to make a stance against."

One of the first involved the Covid policy. They were one of the first to go remote, but also one of the first to go back to in-person schooling. They went back to pre-Covid conditions so quickly, it garnered the attention of the media. The media, in turn, brought them national attention and some critics of the school asked for the White House to intervene - albeit unsuccessfully.

Another stance the Centner's took was against Critical Race Theory, or CRT.

"CRT doesn't exist in this building. We are all created equal. We all have equal opportunities, and we're not in the business of telling anybody they may or may not have more privilege... based on skin tone. We don't play that game in this building," said a staff member to Taranto during a tour of the grounds. The staff member continued, "We have a young men's restroom and a young women's restroom. We don't allow anybody to pick what restroom they are going to use."

Their Commitment to Conservative Beliefs

The Centners are fully committed to their conservative approach to education. So much so, they have had staff members resign over differences of strategy. But the Centner's welcomed any staff member to leave, as it became a means to keep those who also believe in their philosophy of refusing to adopt any woke ideology.

As many educational institutions, particularly public schools in blue states, pursue woke educational programs, the Centner Academy is quite the opposite.

Their "Align Us" woke meter will certainly be on the conservative side. It will be the beacon for any conservative families looking for such a school.

And that's exactly why we exist - to help families learn about businesses and organizations so they can make decisions they feel is best for their family.
